  • I also indulge in a bedtime snack in order to combat sleeping disorders. Hunger is a potent sleep robber. Thus I try to fight hunger before going off to sleep by having some light snacks. This way, I am sure not to feel hungry in the middle of my sleep. Again, if I take high glycemic index carbohydrates, hours prior to my dinner, that too helps me.

  • There are many dietary supplements available in the market to overcome sleeping disorder. Herbal tea can help in handling sleep problems. Chamomile, hops, lemon balm and passionflower are all flaunted for their sleep-promoting characteristics.

  • Although not advisable, at times, taking sleep supplements have helped me to handle sleeping disorders. You would find shelves stacked with these in the supplements stores.  Consult your doctor if you are going to take sleep supplements or medications related to sleeping disorder. But only take it, when you will have enough time to get enough sleep, otherwise you may feel drowsy the next day. But again, I advice not to make it a habit and limit its use by not taking them on a regular basis.

  • Another interesting cure to sleep problems is having a nightcap. True, that by having a glass of wine, you could easily fall asleep. However, excessive alcohol might cause you to wake up in the middle of the night and stay awake. Thus ideally, you should have around three drinks weekly. I have got good results by practicing this.

  • Sleeping disorders are augmented by caffeine. Caffeine is found to affect everyone in a different way. Stop drinking caffeinated beverages at least eight hours before going to bed.  Caffeine should be totally avoided so that you can never have sleep problems arising out of it. If you are fond of it, you could limit caffeine to mornings only,  in order to cure your sleeping disorders.
