My Favorite Pose of Shanti Yoga

The word “Shanti” means peace. Everyone knows that yoga is a popular stress bursting technique.  Our mind and body are interconnected, and when we feel anxiety, stress or depression, our physical health also gets affected. Practicing shanti yoga is very good in order to bring balance with the mind and body.

Yoga has various forms, and Shanti yoga is one among them. It helps to enhance a person’s physical as well as mental health. It offers good relief from stress, tiredness and pain. It also makes the body free from common health complaints. It makes the body energetic and increases the immunity.

Nowadays, there are many yoga videos online to teach these yoga poses.

Focusing and practicing on breathing results in a peaceful mind and can re-energize the body. Peace and relaxation  are the main reasons behind practicing shanti yoga.

I used to practice the following yoga poses daily to keep my mind calm and relaxed.

Lotus Pose (Pranayama)

When I had started doing shanti yoga, this was the first pose I began with. I had learned this pose from yoga videos online.

I sit cross-legged with my hands resting on the knees with my palms up. I start with 5 counts of breathe-in and breathe-out. I close my eyes and follow the rhythm of my breathing. I just do this for 5 or 10 minutes. When regularly done it can give an excellent mind relaxation.

Surya Namaskar

This is the king of asanas. This simple yoga comprises of 12 poses. Watch yoga videos online to study them. This should be done early in the morning when the sun rises.

I had practiced waking up early in the morning to do this yoga asana. It keeps me fresh and energetic right from the start of the day till the end of the day.

Child’s Pose (Balasana)

This pose is a resting position that helps my body and mind get over any accumulated stress. I bend my knees, lean forward and touch the mat with my forehead. I keep the arms at the sides of my body with the palms positioned next to the feet. Keeping my eyes closed, I focus on deep breathing.

Corpse Pose (Savasana)

It is a must-do pose in any yoga practice and hence it should not be skipped. This pose helps the body to execute the information collected from other yoga poses.

I close my eyes, keep the whole body in a relaxed position and concentrate on breathing in this pose.
