The Unique Problem of Blended families

Immaturity of the mate is often cited as the cause for the breakup of the first marriage. However, dealing with children can be the cause for problems in a second marriage. Yes, the unique problem faced by blended families is child rearing.

The problem is so severe that reports show that 4 out of 10 blended family’s end in divorce within the first five years for this very reason. The problem may arise due to the failure on the part of the parents to understand the emotional turmoil, jealousy, resentment and loyalty conflicts that may arise in a child due to the arrival of a stepparent.

Tension especially arises when there is a need to discipline the children. Children from blended families tend to rebel against any discipline given even when it comes from their natural parents.

Another common problem faced by blended families is conflict of interest among kids. This can leave the parents divided and may further cause strain of family ties.
